Statement by Dr. Ada Cuellar on Results in TX-15
“We didn’t get the result we wanted tonight, but we built a movement that will last far beyond this primary. Despite outside groups spending more than twice what we did, it is clear that our campaign resonated with voters across the district. We sent a strong message to the establishment: The compadre system is under notice. I was not the only one frustrated with the status quo, or upset that the Trump administration was killing science and diminishing expertise. The voters of South Texas are clearly rejecting the one big beautiful bill that Monica De La Cruz and Donald Trump used to strip healthcare from hard working people to pay for ICE and for tax cuts for billionaires. Voters in South Texas showed they are willing to fight for women’s healthcare, and for codifying Roe v. Wade. After the shooting of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, we are sending a strong message that we won't tolerate our congresswoman doing nothing to stop untrained, masked federal agents from unleashed on our communities, hurting our economy and putting us all in danger. We can enforce our laws and secure our border, without violating our constitution.
“Tonight, my commitment to the voters is that our movement is only just beginning. We may have lost this campaign, but I’m a fighter and I’m going to continue to hold candidates and elected officials accountable. We will continue to raise the issues that Republicans like Trump and De La Cruz, and compadres would rather ignore. Whether it’s about treating healthcare like a right instead of a privilege, restoring a woman’s right to choose, or fighting for a living wage, we will continue to fight. South Texas is a place brimming with kind and hardworking people, including hardworking immigrants, who put their families first and have a strong sense of community and tradition. We are going to keep standing up to defend it and we need leaders in Washington who are not afraid to stand up to Donald Trump. From here to November, there’s a lot we can do. I’m grateful for every single person who trusted me with their vote. Thank you. Now I ask you to move forward inspired, energized, and committed to continuing to work for change. Talk with your families and friends, help us register new voters. Show up to challenge our candidates and leaders. We can make a difference in the general election and beyond.”
