Dr. Ada Cuellar Announces Candidacy for U.S. Congress in TX-15
Rio Grande Valley, TX — Today, Dr. Ada Cuellar announced her candidacy for U.S. Congress in TX-15. Dr. Cuellar, an emergency room physician, is running a campaign rooted in the belief that every American deserves access to quality healthcare, a strong public education system, and an economy that works for working people—not just the wealthy and well-connected.
After Rep. Monica De La Cruz voted to tear health care away from nearly 70,000 South Texans when she supported the Republican budget plan, Dr. Cuellar decided to step up and defend the hard-working families of South Texas – the very same families she has served for the past 16 years.
"South Texans deserve a strong, principled advocate in Washington - someone who will stand up to special interests, put people before politics, talk to our people face-to-face, and fight to ensure every voice is truly represented," said Dr. Cuellar. "After Monica De La Cruz voted to rip away healthcare from over 1.7 million Texans, I knew I had to step up to defend my community. We deserve so much better from Washington, and I will fight every day to make that a reality."
Born and raised in Weslaco, TX, Dr. Cuellar’s roots in the Rio Grande Valley run deep. After seeing firsthand the consequences of underinvestment in healthcare and education in her community, Dr. Cuellar studied at the University of Texas- Pan American, the University of Texas Medical Branch, and Temple University Hospital. She became an Emergency Medicine doctor here at home to give back to the community that raised her and work to improve the lives of South Texans.
Dr. Cuellar knows the promise of the American dream is real because she has lived it herself. As she works to flip this seat next November, she is promising to bring her fighting spirit to Washington to make sure that dream is real for everyone here in South Texas.
