Statement by Dr. Ada Cuellar on Today’s Federal Court Ruling Blocking Texas’ Gerrymandered Maps
ALAMO, TX - Dr. Ada Cuellar, the Democrat running for Texas’ 15th Congressional District, issued the following statement on today’s federal court panel ruling that blocks Texas Republicans’ 2025 map that the court described as “racially gerrymandered:”
“Today’s ruling by a federal court blocking Texas’s gerrymandered districts for 2026 is a good thing for our democracy. Already, Texas’s 15th district had been gerrymandered so that this majority Hispanic district would flip to red in 2022. While the 2025 changes for the 15th district were less severe than for others, the Court cited substantial evidence in its ruling that the intent of Republicans statewide was to suppress minority voters. Texas 15 will remain an overwhelmingly Latino district, and what I hear from voters every single day on the campaign trail is that they want real representation in Washington. They won’t be silenced. I’m standing up and running to represent this district because of the damage Donald Trump’s agenda is causing to our economy, to our ability to afford health care and groceries, and to our community with indiscriminate ICE raids that sweep up U.S. citizens because of what they look like. Monica De La Cruz has failed to stand up for this district, she refuses to stand up to Donald Trump, and the voters under any map are ready to fire her next November.”
