Four Republicans Joined Democrats to Force a Vote on Extending Obamacare Subsidies, Monica De La Cruz Was Not One of Them

ALAMO, TX - With Affordable Care Act subsidies set to expire in just a few days, four House Republicans stood up to their leadership by signing on to a discharge petition to force a vote to extend those subsidies, but Rep. Monica De La Cruz was not one of them. Republican leaders in the House are putting a bill up for a vote tonight that does not include an extension of those tax credits. Dr. Ada Cuellar, the Democrat running for Congress in Texas’s 15th district issued the following statement:

“Monica De La Cruz today did what she does best: nothing. Despite signing a letter earlier this year claiming to support an extension of Affordable Care Act subsidies, De La Cruz refused to stand up to House Speaker Mike Johnson and to Donald Trump when it actually mattered. By refusing to sign the discharge petition on ACA subsidies, the message De La Cruz is sending her constituents in the 15th district today is that she does not represent them and does not care that their monthly premiums will more than double for 2026. To turn her back on our district just ahead of the holidays is particularly cruel. As a doctor I’ve seen our neighbors choose to go without treatment they need because of the cost, and I’m hearing about this issue from voters all over South Texas. We need leadership and real representation in Washington that fights for affordable and accessible health care.”
